Social Media Marketing is SEO Marketing

The other day I had a great discussion with Cecil, a business consultant for a niche industry.  He is working with one of my clients to increase total business performance.

We discussed marketing strategy, including social media marketing.  As part of the conversation Cecil made a comment. He said, “I have a great SEO guy but I don’t have anyone doing social media.”  We went through what his SEO guy was doing to get his clients to the top of the search engines.

The conversation highlighted how people, even professionals, don’t understand what social media marketing is and isn’t.   Social media marketing is SEO marketing.   Social media is not this stand alone island that one visits only occasionally.    There is no better search engine marketing.  The challenge is that businesses don’t understand how to integrate social media into their everyday marketing activities.

Why?  It’s organic.  Organic means that your website and business are naturally found at the top of local Google searches when someone is looking for your kind of  business or service.

How this is done:

Blogging – Write 200 – 300 word posts that are keyword dense so that your clients can find you.

Facebook – Use Facebook to link to your blog posts and share the information, bringing people back to your website.

Twitter – Use Twitter to broadcast the new website content.  Include a link back to your website to increase website visits and awareness of your product or service

YouTube – YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine.  Create simple videos that answer questions about your product or service and include a link back to your website.

 

Simple steps to take to use Social Media Marketing:

1.  Get a domain name that includes keywords for your business.

2.  Get a Google Places page and make sure it’s set up properly.

3.  Write key content on your blog and share it on your social media profiles.
