Last Year over 1million people purchased hand held drills. Not one of those people wanted a drill? Can you guess what they wanted?
You got it , people who buy drills want
“Holes”.
The drill is simply a tool that solves a problem. The same concept applies to social media and websites. You don’t want social media, email marketing or even a website.
What you want are MORE CUSTOMERS.
If you understand that simple concept it becomes easier to understand the 3 simple steps to building your personal brand. I like to think of it as if you are planting a garden:
Step 1: Prep the Soil:
When prepping the soil you’re building a foundation from which your business can grow. This includes a simple website, social media profiles and and email marketing software for following up with your customers.
- A website: include information that is relevant to help you get more customers
- Create Social Media Pages:
- Facebook Business Page
- Linked In Profile
- Others as appropriate
- Install a Water Bucket
- A way to collect email addresses or phone numbers from potential customers
Step 2: Plant the Seeds
In this step you simply use social media to tell people about your business, specials and to build relationships. Offer coupons or free reports in exchange for an email address. You’re planting the seeds so that your customers become aware of your business.
Social Media:
- Share information and link back to your website
- Have conversations with prospects – bring them back to your website
- Ask for an email address in exchange for something of value like a free report or discount code.
- Use it to get to know your customers.
Step 3: Water the Garden
When someone gives you their email address in exchange for a coupon or free report they are raising their hand to tell you that they are interested in your business. After you have delivered the free item, you now have the opportunity to remind them of your business and the benefits that it offers.
Email Marketing:
- Use email to connect with both new and existing customers to keep them informed and engaged with you and your brand.
- At least once a month share a tidbit of information that will help your customers.
Next Steps:
- Brand yourself: Buy a domain name that includes your name
- Create a Website
- Use Facebook
- Grow it with Email Marketing
Building a brand or business does not have to be complicated. Build simple systems that engage and communicate with your customers and your business will flourish.
